Customer Service Reaches New Heights (or Sights)
Our first days in Nanjing have been a story of lines, lines and more lines, as we try to satisfy all the legal requirements for working in China. We had to change some money and walked into the closest bank. While I was sitting waiting my turn, I noticed the best customer service items I have ever seen. There next to each teller was a selection of readers in different strengths. This is certainly something their counterparts around the world could learn from, especially for us visually-challenged customers. Not exactly a cultural highlight, but certainly worth a shout-out!

Oh, Meredith, I needed a good laugh tonight! The photos of your shopping adventure, frogs, chickens etc, and quest for fat free milk, and your experience with the eggs, were hilarious. I know they are very real, too, though. Life its own self is an adventure in a new country. You reminded me of a movie I saw of African refugees who didn't know what to do with Ritz crackers and ended up smashing them in the box with a hammer and pouring milk in it and eating the resulting mush with a spoon. You do what you can! It sounds like your classes will be great. Lucky students. XO Sue
